-------------------------

"Mrs. Constance Pearce, an elderly widow, residing alone at Moonta Mines, narrowly escaped burning and suffocation on Wednesday morning. As Messrs. A. Woods and J. Goldsworthy were on their way to catch the 6.20 train they noticed a large volume of smoke issuing from the chimneys of the house. They went to the door, when they heard groans, and forcing an entrance, they found Mrs. Pearce on a sofa nearly suffocated by the smoke from smouldering bedding, which had evidently been ignited by the upsetting of a candle."
