Thomasine and her family emigrated to the USA in 1864.

In 1870, Thomasine Smith (39) of England, keeping house, and husband Mark Smith (44) of England, carpenter, were living in Copper Harbor, Keeweenaw, Michigan. Present were children (born in England): John (13), at school, Wm. (11), at school, Mary A. (9), Samuel (7), George (4) of Michigan.

In 1880, Thomassonia Smith (48) of England and husband Mark Smith (54) of England, were living in Dodgeville, Iowa, Wisconsin, USA. Present was daughter Mary Smith (18) of Wisconsin.

In 1900, Thomasine Smith (69) of England, mother of 5 children (4 still living) and husband of 36 years Mark Smith (74) of England, were staying with son George and his family in Ewington Township, Jackson, Minnesota. Son John Smith and his family were living close by.
