Edith A. Jewell was born in Port Huron, Mich., on June 2, 1905, to Charlotte and Frederick Carroll. She grew up in Port Huron and later moved to Highland Park, Mich., where she graduated from high school. After returning to Port Huron she met her future husband, Don, at the church they both attended. They were married on May 22, 1925 and lived in Port Huron until they moved to Mackinaw City in 1952.
The Jewells resided on Lakeside Drive, Wawatam Beach, until his death in June 1992. Edith sold her home on the beach and moved into a cottage in the village on West Sinclair Street. Edith was a valued employee of Teysen's Restaurant and Gift Shop for 19 years. Later she was the manager of the Copper Lantern Gift Shop owned by Peg Smith.
Mrs. Jewell passed away on Oct. 20, 2005, at the Mackinac Straits Hospital, Long Term Care Facility, in St. Ignace. She is survived by her niece, June Carroll Kazuk, of Fort Meyers, Fla., a nephew, Timothy Dolan, of Port Huron, Mich., and a cousin, the Rev. Douglas Teeple, of Houston, Texas. Edith wishes to leave a special thanks to the many friends she has met along the way for their caring and sharing. They gave so many things, intangible and dear that she could not begin to count them all. She knew she owed so much to so many...." 3
