Obituary
" Bruce K. Jewell
Of Frankfort, died Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Munson Medical Center, where he was born 83 years ago to Francis "Frank" W. and Bertha G. (Knaggs) Jewell on May 8, 1928.
Bruce and his seven sisters grew up in Elberta. In 1946 he left home to enlist in the U.S. Army, where he served in the Airborne Division in Fort Benning, GA. Upon his return to Elberta he graduated from Frankfort High School.
He began his employment with the Ann Arbor Railroad at age 16, as a porter. Except for a few breaks in employment for the service and the beginning of his first marriage, he remained there until it's closure in 1983, obtaining his 1st Class Pilot's license in 1960 and his Master's License in 1967. Bruce was a highly regarded Captain of the car ferries, The Viking and the City of Green Bay ( his favorite).
On August 12, 1950, he married Beverly L. Johnson and together they raised three children, Ingrid (Ed Moody), Lisa (Bruce Wilson) and Jack (Brenda Nye). He is also survived by three grandsons, Daniel (Lauren) Jackson, Trevor Moody and Justin Jewell; two great grandchildren, Trevor W. Moody and Annabelle Jackson. He also leaves behind the love of his life for the last ten years, Elizabeth (Fitzhugh) Barientos, along with sisters, Ethel Mix, Evelyn (Jack) Beugnot, Barbara Morrow, Frances (Gerald) Johnson; several step-children and step grandchildren, many special nephews and nieces and many wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Beverly and Joyce (May) Jewell, son, John Frederick, grandson, Brandon L. Jewell and sisters, Goldie (Lawrence) Hall, Ida (Pat) Lindsay and Mary Jane (Mick) Finan.
Bruce loved the outdoors. He spent the happiest times of his life hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening and golfing. He enjoyed two businesses in retirement, The Betsie Valley Wild Animal Nuisance Control and Bruce and Paul's Maple Syrup a production he always looked forward to every spring. He was so anticipating another trapping season with his canoe on the Betsie River...." 3
