Research Notes:
Another old and respected Windsor resident whose death is widely regretted throughout the district community was Mr. George Davis, who passed away at the Hawkesbury District Hospital on Friday last at the advanced age of 87 years.
One who had spent practically the whole of his life at Windsor, where he was born, deceased was a son of the late Christopher and Mary Davis, and a member of one of the oldest and most generally esteemed f amilies in the Hawkesbury. As a young man he earned his living for a time in the Mudgee district, but later returned to Windsor, where he followed his occupation as a builder until his comparatively recent retirement. Of a genial and friendly disposition, with a reputation for honesty in business dealings, he made a host of local friendships during his long and useful life, and his death has removed from our midst one whose memory shall be long esteemed.
In his passing the Windsor Rifle Club has lost one of its oldest members and most keen supporters, while he took a keen interest also in pigeon breeding, and as a fancier had many trophies to testify to his skill in that direction. In other day's his entries were a regular feature of each Hawkesbury Show, and in later years he had considerable success with flowers, many of his carefully- tended and expensive blooms testifying to his enthusiasm in this direction, his garden display generally at his Macquarie-street home never failing to attract the admiration of passers-by.
The late Mr. Davis was twice married, his first wife being a daughter (Lucy) of the late Mr. and Mrs. Casimir, of Richmond, and of this marriage there survive, one son, George (Windsor) and one daughter, Georgina (Mrs. Spring, Mosman)* . His first wife died in 1882, and subsequently he married Miss Eliza Primrose, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Primrose, of Windsor, who also predeeeased him, some years ago, there being no issue of this marriage. One brother, Thomas (Riverstone) also survives him. 3
