Research Notes:
"MASTER NOEL V. CARRUTHERS.
Widespread and profound was the sorrow in Scone on Saturday last when the sad intelligence was received of the sudden passing that day, in a private hospital in the city, of Noel Vivian Carruthers, only son (and child) of Mr. and Mrs. Harold A. Carruthers, of the Annandale branch of the Bank of N.S. Wales, and formerly highly esteemed citizens of Scone. Noel, who had very many confreres in Scone, was only 19 years of age, and following his father's footsteps, was in the service of the Bank. From what can be gleaned, Noel, a sturdy lad, and incidentally a general favorite, contracted a chill following a game of tennis. Pleurisy and pheumonia intervened, but despite every possible care and attention, he passed away, right on the threshold of manhood. Noel was an ex-Newingtonian, and was the third generation of the family to be educated at that College. Mr. and Mrs. Carruthers have received a sheaf of messages of sympathy in their great sorrow from friends from far and near." 3
