"Harold F. Rhone, 77, of 3004 E. 22nd St., died Monday, April 28, 1997, at Sioux Valley Hospital.
Mr. Rhone was born Aug. 6, 1919, on a farm in Cherokee County near Cherokee, Iowa. As a boy, he moved with his family to a farm near Heron Lake, Minn., and later moved into the village of Heron Lake, where he was educated.
He entered the U.S. Navy on Feb. 12, 1941. He was a shipfitter on the USS Astoria in the Pacific during World War II. He earned a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged Feb. 11, 1947.
He married Marjorie Simenson in Moorhead, Minn. They lived in Heron Lake until moving to Sioux Falls in 1952. He worked for a short time at John Morrell & Co. He then worked as a welder with the gas company. He retired in 1982 after 30 years of service.
He was a member of Grace Church, and former member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where he served as a board member, usher and choir member. He was a Boy Scout Scoutmaster for many years, and a former president and secretary of the Sioux Valley Optimist Club.
Besides his wife, survivors include two sons: Gary and John, both of Sioux Falls; three daughters: Mrs. James (Sandra) Hamman of Harrisburg; Cheryl Loban of Sioux Falls; and Teri Knutson of Omaha, Neb; eight grandchildren; a brother, Floyd of Spokane, Wash.; and a sister, Virgie Hanson of Cherokee. " 2
