Gervais, comte de Réthel
- Born: Abt 1079, Rethel, Ardennes, Champagne-Ardenne, France
- Married: Between 1120 and 1122
- Died: Before 1124, Reims, Champagne-Ardenne, France
Research Notes:
He is named as brother of Baudouin II King of Jerusalem by William of Tyre, specifying that he was later elected archbishop of Reims, but resigned after the death of his brother in order to marry, and had a single daughter. The Chronicle of Alberic de Trois-Fontaines records in 1108 that the election of "Gervasii filii comitis Hugonis Reitestensis" was annulled and "Radulfum prepositum" ordained "in Remensem archiepiscopum".
He succeeded his father as Comte de Rethel. A charter dated 1115 records absolution granted to "Manasses filius Hugonis comitis" and "eo…mortuo" to "Gervasius frater eiusdem". 1
Marriage Information:
Gervais married Elisabeth de Namur, daughter of Godefroi, comte de Namur et de Château-Porcien and Sibylle de Château-Porcien, between 1120 and 1122. (Elisabeth de Namur died after 1148.)
