The Chronicle of Alberic de Trois-Fontaines names "Odonem…de Canlita" as son of "Hugo comes Campanie" & his [second] wife but specifies that "dictum est a phisicis comiti Hugoni…non habebat possibilitatem generandi" and therefore concludes that Eudes could not have been his son[720]. He is called nephew of Comte Renaud III and Comte Guillaume III in charters of the archbishop of Besançon[721]. There appears to be no available source from which his legitimacy or otherwise can be deduced. However, the fact that he never claimed to succeed Hugues as comte de Troyes suggests that Eudes recognised the uncertainty of his position.
Marriage Information:
Eudes married Sybille DE CHAMPLITTE, daughter of Seigneur Jobert DE CHAMPLITTE and Dame DE LA FERTÉ-SUR-AUBE. (Sybille DE CHAMPLITTE died in 1177.)
