Obituary in Tableland Times

"The sudden passing of Mrs Dayrell Maud Harris at the Atherton Hospital came as a shock to her many friends. She has just returned from a lengthy holiday in the south and had been ill only a few days when she entered hospital. She was the widow of William Harris (a member of the well known mining family, and discoverer of the Mt MUlligan coal field) and daughter of the late Mr & Mrs W Paskins, who kept the old Terminus Hotel in Mareeba, and in the very old dys a hotel at the foot of the range where the pack track led from the coast to Herberton.

In 1907 she married and lived at Woodville, now Mt Mulligan. After the decline of mining on the Hodgkinson goldfield the family went to live at Mt Carbine (1914). She was a capable nurse and many of the old hands of that mining centre will remember her with gratitude. Her husband died at Herberton in 1930 and for many years h was a popular and well loved figure of the Herberton Hospital Staff. She took a keen interest in young people and when she retired to live in Atherton was always happy to have then on her home.

This kindly woman will be missed by a large circle of friends.

She leaves a grown up family of two girls and three boys. Mrs H Morris (Dayrell of Townsville), William in Innisfail, Norman in Ravenshoe,
Mrs A Archibald (Emelda of Innisfail) Chris (Buster), T.A.A Pilot of Brisbane. She also leaves 11 Grandchildren and Two Great-Grandchildren."

Dayrell married William HARRIS, son of Joseph HARRIS and Mary BENNETT, on 22 May 1907 in St. George's Church, Mareeba, Queensland, Australia. (William HARRIS was born on 6 Aug 1876 in Mt. Morgan, Queensland, Australia and died on 31 Dec 1930 in Herberton, Queensland, Australia.)
