SAILLENFEST

The surname is variously spelt in the Registers of Norrey-en-Bessin, Guerbaville and Notre Dame de Bliquetuit: Saillanfaits, Saillenfaits, Saillenfest... The name derives from the two verbs: sailler-"to rig out the studding-sail booms" on a ship (transitive), "to make good headway nautically (intransitive); and faire (from which faits)-"to do, make, fashion" (Harapp's French-English Dictionary). Hence the family occupations of shipbuilder, shipwright, sailor e.t.c. are described by the name itself.

  Marriage Information:

Jean married Marie Lepetit, daughter of Marin Lepetit, est 1655. (Marie Lepetit was born about 1620 and died on 26 Feb 1688 in Saint-Manvieu-Norrey, Calvados, Normandie, France.)
