------------------------

There is no baptismal record for Francis in St. Gluvias or the surrounding parishes. 3 There were two Harris families having children in the parish of St. Gluvias during the 1750s. One of these was Samuel Harris and Ursula Kempe, who were married in 1748 in Feock (a little over 7 miles north-east of Penryn) and had children in Penryn from 1750 to 1764. The other couple were Richard Harris and Mary Richards who married in Penryn and were having children there from 1745 to 1761. Samuel Harris of Penryn left a will in 1785 in which his children are named. As such, Francis could only have been an unrecorded younger son of Richard and Mary. One of their children was John Harris (christened 12 Mar 1755), who was the earliest recorded John Harris in the St. Gluvias register for baptisms in the 1700s and an adult in the 1780s. John Harris was a witness to the marriage of Francis Harris and Ann Dunstone in 1787, after having himself married the year before. After John, the next child of Richard Harris and Mary on record was Richard who was christened four years later on 19 Mar 1759.

Onomastically it can be noted that Francis and Ann had two daughters named Susanna (the first christened 31 Dec 1797 and buried 24 Oct 1798; the second christened 1 Dec 1799); as son of Richard Harris, Francis had a sister Susanna as well as an aunt Susanna Harris, who in turn was granddaughter of another Susanna.

3 There was a Francis Harris christened in the neighbouring parish of Mylor on 26 Oct 1767, son of Richard Harris and Mary Spry who were married in the parish of Philleigh in 1762. As such, Francis Harris born in 1756/7 was the not the same Francis. The only Francis Harris on record in Cornwall as having been born about 1756 was just over 13 miles north-west of Penryn in St. Agnes, Francis son of Francis Harris and Sarah, christened 1 Nov 1755. However, this Francis married in St. Agnes, and was buried there in 1812 aged 58 years.
