Rómanos ARGYROS, Byzantine nobleman
- Born: Between 890 and 900, Byzantium
- Married: 921
Research Notes:
Theophanes Continuatus names "Romanus Argyrus ducis…eiusque frater Leo" during the account of the war with Bulgaria (in 918). Cedrenus names "Romanus et Leo Argyri filii". His birth date range is estimated from his marriage date. A later passage in Theophanes Continuatus names "Romanum…Leonis filium" when recording his marriage, which suggests that "frater" in the earlier passage was an error for "pater". From a chronological point of view, it appears more likely that Romanos was the son of Leon rather than his brother. 1
Marriage Information:
Romanos married Agatha LEKAPÉNA, daughter of Rómanos I LEKAPÉNOS, Emperor of Byzantium, and unnamed 1st Wife, in 921.
