The primary source which confirms Guillaume's parentage has not been identified, but it is probable that he was the grandson of Guy [II]. Baluze names the parents of "Guillaume II" as "Estienne", son of Guillaume [I], and "Blanche" but cites no primary source which provides the basis for his statements.
Seigneur de Thiern. "Willelmus et uxor mea Adeleida" donated "in pago Limagniæ terram…Caverossum" by charter dated to [1049/1109] signed by "Stephani fratris eius". "Willelmus Tier" witnessed the donation to Cluny of "Ermengardis" (his sister-in-law) dated Nov 1083, apparently indicating that he was still alive at that date (assuming the date is correct). 1
