In 1880, James H. Rough (21) of Michigan, miner, was living in Negaunee, Marquette, Michigan. Present were wife Mary E. (19) of Canada, daughter Harriet (1) of Michigan.

In 1910, James H. Rough (52) of Michigan and wife Mary E. (49) of Michigan [sic], were living in Negaunee Ward 4, Marquette, Michigan. Present were son James (13) and two servants.

In 1920, James H. Rough (60) of Michigan and wife Mary E. (54) of Canada, were living in Negaunee Ward 4, Marquette, Michigan. Present were son James H. (23) of Michigan, married, daughter-in-law Edna L. (22) of Michigan, niece Elsie Whitington (19) of Michigan.

In 1930, James H. Rough (70) of Michigan and wife Mary (68) of Canada, were living in Negaunee, Marquette, Michigan. Present were daughter Lottie Kirkpatrick (43), widowed, grandson Donald Kirkpatrick (7) of Michigan.
