"Very general regret was ex[pressed] in Kerang and the surround[ing] districts when it became known [that] Thomas Bennett, a well-known and highly respected resident of Murrabit succumbed to an attack of pn[eumonia]. Only a week prior to his death [he had] been in his usual good health as usual, actively engaged on ---?--- A severe cold was the first indication of trouble. Serious consequences developed, and he died about 4 p.m. Tuesday last. The deceased was 42 years of age, and was the son [of] the late Mr Joseph Bennett, and was --?-- Chepstode, near Carngham. About the year 1879 the family to [this] district, the father and elder son [--?--]ing land at Murrabit, the deceased [sub]sequently taking up a block. H[e was] a good citizen and did whatever [was in] his power to further public in[terests]. He was chairman of the Muni[cipal] School Committee and treasur[er of the] Murrabit public hall, and also [took] prominent interest in the lo[cal] Church. He leaves a wife and --?-- [chil]dren, ranging from seven [to] 12 years of age, to mourn the [loss of a] good husband and kind father. ---?--- sympathy is felt for the bereaved..."

"Mr. Thomas Bennett, a well known farmer of Murrabit, succumbed last week to an attack of pneumonia, supervening on a severe cold. The deceased, who was but 42 years of age, was chairman of the Murrabit West School Committee and treasurer of the Murrabit Public Hall, whilst he was also a prominent member of the local Baptist Church. He leaves a wife and six children." 4 5 6
