Obituary

AGED MRS. BANKS WAS FLOWER GIRL FOR QUEEN VICTORIA

Mercer County lost one of her oldest residents when death took Mrs. Elizabeth Banks, aged 92 years, Saturday night. For the past 40 years, the Banks family have resided on their farm in Wet Tract. Mrs. Banks with the exception of two sons, Thomas Yeats of Stoneboro and Anthony, who has had charge of the farm for several years, is the last of a large family of English people who came to this country more than 60 years ago. She was the mother of a large family, a number of whom lived to past the middle of life. The two sons above mentioned, children of her first husband to whom she married in England shortly before their start for the new home in the States, are all that is left. Mrs Banks was the daughter of Thomas Bou Sanks of a prominent family of her native land.

She was born in Cornwall, England, and at the crowning of Queen Victoria at Westminster Abbey, June 28, 1838, was one of the flower girls at the coronation. She and her family have resided in Shenango Township for the past 40 years, the first 20 years of their residence in this country was spent near New Castle.

For a long time she has not taken part in church work owing to her age but she for many years was a very active member of the local Methodist Church, and her pastor, Rev. J. M. Farrell will have charge of the services that have been arranged for Tuesday from her home.

NOTE: Date of death was February 1, 1914 Her maiden name should be Bosanco or Bosanko not Bou Sanks 6
