  Research Notes:

"MR RICHARD GIBBS. Mr Richard Gibbs, of 'Chipton,' Crimea street, St. Kilda, died at his residence on Saturday morning last, at the age of 72 years. For many years the late Mr Gibbs was connected with business pursuits in Melbourne, and at one period was a member of the firm of Gibbs aud Mountain, timber brokers. For thirty-eight years he had been a resident of St. Kilda. He was somewhat of a retiring disposition, and could claim numerous and genuine friends. Cr Harry Gibbs, of the St. Kilda council, is tbe eldest son of the deceased gentleman, and at the meeting of the council on Monday evening last, Cr. Stedeford expressed regret at the death of Mr. Gibbs, bearing testimony to the many excellent virtues he possessed. He (Cr. Stedeford) moved that a letter of condolence be forwarded to the family. Cr. Hughes, in seconding the motion, said they could ill afford to lose such men as Mr. Gibbs. Mayor Pittard also expressed sincere regret at the demise of Mr Gibbs, adding that his absence in the country prevented him from attending the funeral. The motion was carried unanimously. The funeral took place on Monday last, at the St. Kilda Cemetery, being attended by councillors and Mr Browne, town clerk. The Rev. Canon Potter officiated at the grave, The mortuary arrangements were carried out by Mr Apps. We join in tendering Cr. Gibbs and tbe other members of the family our sincere sympathy in their bereavement."
