  Research Notes:

In 1828, Nich Browse was a witness at the marriage of his brother Henry to Elizabeth Narracott.

In 1849, Nicholas Browse was a witness at the marriage of his niece Susan Jane Browse to Henry Narracott.

In 1851, Nicholas Browse (49) of Brixham, inn keeper & veterinary surgeon, and wife Ann (47) of Dartmouth, were living in London Inn, Foss St., Dartmouth St. Saviours. Present were children (born in Dittisham): Ann (19), Mary? (18), Catherine (14), Emily (11), Henry (8), Louisa (4), mother Jane Browse (88) of Sherford, widow, dep on rel, and 2 house servants.

In 1861, Nicholas Browse (59) of Brixham, relieving officer, and wife Ann G. (57) of Dartmouth, were living in Bridgetown, Berry Pomeroy, Devon. Present were children (born in Dittisham): Emily Browse (21), Henry H. Browse (17), solicitor's clerk, Louisa Browse (14), Fanny Ravenscroft (28), married, grandchildren (born in London): Birkbeck Ravenscroft (3), Alice Ravenscroft (1)

In 1871, Nicholas Browse (69) of Brixham, relieving officer, and wife Ann (66) of Dartmouth, were living in Fore St., Berry Pomeroy Devon. Present was granddaughter Mabel B. Veale (4) of Bridgetown.

"BROWSE.—Oct. 17, at Bridgetown, Berry Pomeroy, Mr. Nicholas Browse, aged 71. Deceased for more than twenty years efficiently discharged the duties of relieving officer for No. 1 district of the Totnes Union." 3

"Mr. Nicholas Browse, who has been one of the relieving officers of the Totnes Union for more than 21 years, expired at his residence on Friday afternoon. About a couple of months since he was obliged to cease work, although it was hoped that with rest he would recover." 3
