Alfred Phinney was born March 9, 1903, to Bart and Vina May (Briles) Phinney near Virgil.
He married Alice Mae Youngs Sept. 13 1923, in Huron. He worked as a carpenter and later farmed. In 1934, they moved to Black Duck, Minn., where they lived until 1952, when they moved to Milwaukee, Wis., where he was employed at a factory. Upon his retirement in 1968, they moved to Endeavor, Wis., where they lived until 1984, when they moved back to Wessington Springs.
He is survived by his wife of Wessington Springs; one son and daughter-in-law, Merle and Toni Phinney of Milwaukee, Wis.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Naomi and Warren Horsley of DeRidder, La., and Karen and Edward Sobczak of Cudahy Wis.; one daughter-in-law, Leona Phinney Potts of Mott, N.D.; 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, one sister, Edna Wills of Wessington Springs, and one sister-in-law, Edith Boyd of Wessington Springs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons and one infant brother..." 1
