On 18 Dec 1871 William Keep of Newbury Berks joined the British Army, at which time he was a collar maker. He signed the Attestation Paper on 16 Dec 1871 at Woolwich. 4

In 1891 William Keep, aged 36, born in Newbury, married, sergeant, was in the District Cavalry and Artillery Barracks, St. Giles, Essex.

In 1901 William Keep, aged 46, born in Newbury, newsagent, and wife Elizabeth A., aged 34, born in Hinden Wilts, were living at 59 Paynes Rd., Shirley, Hampshire. Present were children: Ellen (17) of Barrackpore India, Vivian W. (9) of Colchester Essex, Hilda M. (6) of Scotland

In 1911 William Keep, aged 56, born in Newbury, widower, newsagent, was living at 79 Park Rd., Freemantle, Shirley, Hampshire. Present were children: Vivian William (19) of Colcheter Essex, assisting in the business (newsagency), Hilda Mary (16) of Montrose Forfarshire, assisting in the business (newsagency). William's daughter Nellie was with her paternal grandfather.

In the 1939 Register William Keep (b. 19 Oct 1854), widowed, retired army pensioner, was with [his daughter] Hilda M White and her family at 23 Maybush Road, Southampton, Hampshire.
