   Research Notes:

" UREN.—On the 3rd August, at his residence, "Penquite," Payneham-rd., St. Peters, Jonathan, beloved husband of Elizabeth R. Uren, in his 67th year."

---------------------------

"The announcement of the death at his residence, Penquite, Payneham road, St. Peters, of Mr. Jonathan Uren will be deplored by friends in all parts of the State. The event occurred with shocking suddenness early on Monday morning. Mr. Uren had retired on Sunday night apparently in his accustomed health, but soon afterwards alarming symptoms caused his relatives to summon his medical adviser. Within a few hours, however, he had passed peacefully away. The deceased gentleman, who was in his sixty-seventh year, was born at Goldsithney, West Cornwall, England, in 1842, and came to South Australia early in the sixties. He always resided in the State, and did his share in a quiet, unobtrusive way to advance the best interests of his adopted land. While never aspiring to public positions, he always manifested a keen interest in public affairs, and was well known and highly respected in the different parts of the State, where he engaged in business from time to time, and won the esteem of his fellow-colonists for his honourable dealings, generosity, and geniality of character and decided usefulness. He conducted business for some years at Port Adelaide and afterwards at Mount Gambier and Mount Barker. For a while he acted as the local correspondent of The Register at Mount Barker. Throughout his career he was a stanch member of the Methodist Church, and worshiped for many years at Kent Town. Mr. Uren has left a widow, three sons— Mr. Frank Uren, Head Master at North Freemantle (W.A.) Public School; Mr. Arthur R. Uren; of East Adelaide; and Mr. Reginald Uren, of Western Australia— and three daughters the Misses Uren who are members of the nursing profession." 4
