At the time of the 1891 England Census Ellen Newey, age 22, born in Newhaven, and husband William Newey, age 25, born in Birmingham Warwickshire, iron carter, were living in Birmingham All Saints, Warwickshire. With them were children (born in Birmingham): Gertrude (4) and William (1). Also present were Ellen's brother John Carey (30) of Birmingham, ship's fireman, and his wife Sarah (21) of Birmingham, pearl button finisher.

At the time of the 1901 England Census Ellen Newey, age 34, born in Bham, and husband Wm Newey, age 34, born in Bham, iron worker, were living at 4/38 Nelson? St., Birmingham Warwickshire. With them were children (born in Birmingham): Gertie (14), errand girl, Wm (12), George (8), Nellie (4), Harry (8 mo).

At the time of the 1911 England Census Mrs. Ellen Newey, age 42, born in Brighton Sussex (mother of 7 children, 3 deceased), housekeeper, and husband of 24 years William Newey, age 46, born in Birmingham, iron carter, were living at 38 New Spring St., Birmingham All Saints, Warwickshire. Present were children (born in Birmingham, single): Gertrude May (23), no occupation, George Edward (17), dipper (lamp), Nellie Matilda (15), plater (bicycles), Harry (12), school, Percy Cyril (6), school, Edith Milicent (2).
