Gozelin LE BRETON of Cublington & Potsgrove 1

  • Married:
  • Died: Cublington, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England

  Research Notes:

Manor of Potsgrove, Bedfordshire:

At the time of the Domesday Survey the manor of POTSGROVE, comprising 7½ hides, was held of the king by Gozelin le Breton, who was preceded in the time of King Edward by four thegns. From the middle of the 13th century the honour of Gloucester appears as intermediary between the lords of Potsgrove Manor and the Crown. Potsgrove, like Biddenham, remained attached to this honour until the death of Humphrey Duke of Buckingham in 1460.

Gozelin le Breton was tenant of Potsgrove at the time of the Survey. He was succeeded by his son Hugh, whose great-granddaughter Juliana married Geoffrey de Lucy. 1

Manor of Gladley, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire:

The manor of GLADLEY, comprising 2½ hides in 1086 and situated partly in Buckinghamshire, was held of the king in chief; but during the 13th and 14th centuries the holders of the honour of Gloucester appear as intermediary lords between the lords of the manor and the Crown.

The tenant of the manor at the date of the Survey was Gozelin le Breton, from whom it descended to his son Hugh and grandson Walter. The latter left a daughter and heiress Amabilla, whose daughter and heiress married as her third husband Geoffrey de Lucy, to whom she brought the manor in dower.... 2
