Obituary

"John Aitkins Manton, Woollahra, 68. His father, the late Dr. Frederick Manton, was engaged in pastoral pursuits in New South Wales and Victoria in 1835, and his grandfather, Joseph Manton, was an eminent inventor in connection with small arms and originator of rifling. In 1860 deceased discovered the Peak Downs Copper Mine, from which over £250,000 sterling was paid in dividends. In 1875 he was appointed to the Public Service as the first forest officer, and as Inspector of Forests had charge of the Murray River forests until he retired in 1896. Mr. Manton leaves a widow, one son, and five daughters." 6

(Emily Green was born on 14 Apr 1844 in North Rocks Via Parramatta, Sydney, N.S.W., Australia 7 8, died on 25 Sep 1941 in North Sydney, New South Wales, Australia 9 10 and was buried on 27 Sep 1941 in Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium 11.

"On the 18th instant, at All Saints Church, Parramatta, by the Rev. W. F. Gore, assisted by the Rev. G. Barlow, John A. Manton, fourth son of the late Frederick Manton, Esq., to Emily, daughter of the late Robert Green, Esq."
