"DEATH OF MR. H. MENDT
The death occurred suddenly early on Saturday morning of Mr. Harry Mendt (aged 71) at his home, 9 Falconer street, Pirie West. Mr. Mendt had not enjoyed the best of health in recent weeks, and had been under medical attention, but his death was entirely unexpected.
Deceased was out walking on Friday afternoon, apparently well. He felt, weak, however, and was given a lift home, and went to bed. Shortly after midnight he became ill, and some time later a telephone message was sent to Dr. B. G. Johnston. The doctor's arrival and the death of Mr. Mendt were almost simultaneous.
Mr. Mendt, who had been a seafarer in his earlier life, had lived in Pirie many years. He was a member of the Federated Enginedrivers and Firemen's Association, and was employed as a greaser at the Smelters. He retired about four years ago under the B.H.A.S. retirement scheme, and had since lived quietly at his home.
Five years ago Mr. Mendt married Mrs. P. Welsh, who survives.
The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon. Pastor Killmier officiated at the graveside." 3
