At the time of the 1901 England Census (Sir) John Goldney, aged 54, born in Corsham Wilts, Knight, retired Chief Justice of Trinidad, and wife (Lady) Jane M Goldney, aged 50, born in Birkenhead, were living in Monks Park, Corsham Wilts.

At the time of the 1911 England Census John Tankerville Goldney, aged 65, born in Pickwick, Corsham Wilts, bank director, and wife of 36 years Jane McGregor Goldney, aged 60, born in Birkenhead (no children), were living in Monks Park, Corsham Wilts. With them were niece Eveline Hungerford Goldney (28) of Rowden House Chippenham, single, and six servants.

In May 1911 Sir John Tankerville Goldney, Knight, was granted Probate of his late wife's personal effects.

In July 1912 John Tankerville Goldney was present at the marriage of his niece Eveline Margaret Hungerford Goldney to Graham Eardley Dunsterville in Corsham Wilts.

John Tankerville Goldney attended Harrow School, and studied at Trinity College, Cambridge. He was called to the bar on April 30, 1869. On February 9, 1875 he married Jane MacGregor Laird, daughter of John Laird, Member of Parliament for Birkenhead. He held several appointments for the Crown; Chief Justice of the Leeward Islands, judge of the High Court of British Guiana and the Chief Justice for the Straits Settlements from 1887-1892. While he was serving in Singapore he noticed there was no golf course. He spearheaded the founding of the course and served as the first president. In 1892, he was appointed Chief Justice of Trinidad and Tobago and was honored as a Knight Bachelor the following year. Upon his return to England he was appointed High Sheriff of Wiltshire in 1910 and a Justice of the Peace.

SIR JOHN T. GOLDNEY.

Sir John Tankerville Goldney died on Sunday at Monk's Park, Corsham, aged 73, from heart failure following influenza. Sir John was the son of the late Sir Gabriel Goldney, who was for 20 years M.P. for Chippenham, and brother of the present baronet, Sir Prior Goldney. He went to Harrow and Cambridge and was called to the Bar in 1869. In 1880 he was appointed Attorney-General of the Leeward Islands, and in the following year became Acting Chief Justice there. He was appointed a puisne Judge in British Guiana in 1884, and three years later he went to the Straits Settlements as a Judge, remaining there until 1892, when he was made Chief Justice of Trinidad. He was knighted in 1893. Sir John was twice married, his second wife, who survives him, being a daughter of Major F. C. Napier Goldney, Indian Army. The Goldneys have been associated for centuries with Wiltshire, and an ancestor of the family obtained a charter of incorporation for Chippenham from Queen Mary in 1553.
