Obituary

" Mr. Frank Roderick Gum, who died at the age of 43 at his residence, Napier terrace, Unley Park, was a son of the late Mr. Thomas Gum, of Amyton. He was well known throughout the northern part of the State, Eyre Peninsula and the metropolitan area. Before coming to Adelaide to begin building contracting, he was farming and grazing in the Willowie district. In 1921 he came to the city and in a few years he launched out in country contracting and built a number of buildings on Eyre Peninsula. During the depression years, when building was at a stand still, Mr. Gum went back on the land at Willowie. In 1934 he again came to the city and purchased the business of Unley Woodworkers Limited, which he reorganised under the name of Frank R. Gum & Co . and began manufacturing joinery. At the time of taking over there were five employees on the staff; there were 33 at his death. He took a keen interest in the affairs of the Associated Building Contractors of SA., of which he was president. His brother, Mr. Clarence H. Gum, who was closely associated with him in the business, will carry it on for the trustees. Mr. Gum has left a widow and son." 6
