Obituary

MR. L. E. WUNSCH

News of the death of Mr. Louis Edward Wunsch, aged 68 years, best known to his intimate friends as "Ted,'' and which occurred yesterday, will be learned with very great regret throughout the whole of the Wagga district. For more than half a century there was scarcely anyone better known in Wagga in business and sporting circles than the late Mr. Wunsch. Born in Wodonga, Victoria, in 1868, he was the second son of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. Wunsch, of Beckwith-street, Wagga. His father was a foreman saw miller and his mother was recognised as one of the leading amateur gardeners in this part of the State. The garden surrounding the old home of the Wunsch family in Beckwith-street was for many years an attractive show place. Mr. L. E. Wunsch was educated at the old Simmons-street school and at the conclusion of his school period, joined the staff of Messrs. David Copland and Co. in 1882. He eventually became foreman of the boot department, and remained in the firm's employ for 39 years. He was an all-round sportsman and was noted as a good pigeon shot and an athlete of no mean order in the days when Wagga boasted a galaxy of foot runners. Many of the older generation will recall the athletic sports held on the Wagga racecourse and on the river bank in which several members of the Wunsch family engaged. He was also a member in the earlv days of the Federal Football Club, and later joined the Wagga Golf Club of which his daughter, the lare miss Jean Wunsch, became associate champion. Miss Jean Wunsch died about five years ago. Mr Wunsch is survived by his widow, who was a Miss Robinson. three sons. Messrs. Cyril, Roy and Jack, and two daughters, Misses Marjorie and Dorothy, and four grand children. He was also a member of the M.U.I.O.O.F. for 5t vears. Mr. Wunsch was in his usual health until quite recently, and proposed making his annual visit, to Flemington to witness the Melbourne Cup, but at the last moment changed his plans. He was taken seriously iII about a fortnight and after having been nursed at his home in Kincaid-street, later became a patient at Welwyn private hospital...." 3
