At the time of the 1901 England Census William Smith, age 25, born in Bodiam Sussex, was working was a domestic coachman for clothier John Piggott in Pankhurst, Bexley, Kent.

At the time of the 1911 England Census William Walter Smith, age 35, born in Bodiam Sussex, greengrocer, and wife of 10 years Emma Stigger, age 33, born in Farningham Kent, were living living at 1 Sussex Villa, Cobham Surrey with son Fred Cecil (7) of Puttenham Surrey, visitors [wife's parents] Fred and Emily Finn (both aged 56), married for 35 years.

In the 1939 Register William W Smith (b. 27 Mar 1876), drilling machine setter, and wife Emma S Smith (b. 28 Jun 1877), unpaid domestic duties, were living in Church View Portsmouth Road, Cobham, Surrey.

THE LATE MR. W. W. SMITH

The funeral of Mr. William Walter Smith, of Church View, The Street, Cobham, took place on Thursday of last week at Cobham Cemetery, following a service at the Gospel Hall, Anyards-road. Mr. Smith, whose death was briefly reported last week, died on the previous Sunday, aged 64. A resident of Cobham since 1911, and an engineer's driller by trade, he had been employed at Vickers for 22 years. After serving in the Great War in The Queen's (Labour Corps), he was discharged on account of war injuries in 1918. Mr. Smith is survived by a widow and one son. The choral service was conducted by Mr. Grant, of Surbiton, assisted by Mr. H. Vinall, and immediate mourners were Mrs. E. Smith (widow), Mr. and Mrs. F. Smith (son and daughter-in-law), Mrs. A. Elgar (sister), Messrs. H. and P. Smith (brothers), Mr. and Mrs. J. Finn (uncle and aunt), Mrs. E. Alexander, Mrs. G. Weston, Mr. J. and Miss R. Weston, Mr. and Mrs. H. Vinall, Miss A. Wells (friends), and Messrs. J. Short and A. Waldron (representing Vickers Aviation, Ltd.). There were many wreaths.
