GRAVESEND.

SIGNAL BOX SMASHED.—On Thursday, during shunting operations, No 2 signal box, on the down side at the S.E.R. station, Gravesend, was completely wrecked by being run into by a passenger train. The signalman, Charles Woolgar, had a narrow escape, jumping from the box as a guard's van and passenger carriage crashed into it. Traffic was considerably interfered with, but every effort was made to clear the line, under the supervision of the stationmaster, Mr Charles Hart. No one was hurt.
