Albert E. Shuttleworth

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Albert E. "Chuck" Shuttleworth, 93, died Sunday, July 27, 2003, at his home.

He was born in Portsmouth, N.H., and had been a resident of Pensacola since 1949. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, who enriched the lives of all those he touched. He was a great teacher and mentor and succeeded in everything he did. He was of the old school, where a handshake was your word, and he epitomized the true meaning of a great man.

In the early 1940s, he was a machinist and later a captain at the Fire Department at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He then moved to Pensacola Naval Air Station in 1949 as the assistant fire chief and retired in 1968. He was loved by all who knew him and was "larger than life."

He was a 50-year member of St. John?s Masonic Lodge No. 1, Portsmouth, N.H.; a member of the Scottish Rite; York Rite, Pensacola, Fla.; and a charter member of the Pensacola Hadji Shrine and served in the Hospitality Unit for more than 20 years; and a member of Zelica Grotto. He was also an avid sportsman.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Anna Shuttleworth; and his daughter Vicki Lee Johnson.

He is survived by his daughters Corinne (Pete) Adams, June (Fred) Busic, and Donna (Charles) Brown; 16 grandchildren, Wendi (Stryker) Jones, Elin Coursey, Fred W. Busic III, Robert E. Steele Jr., Melissa (Stan) Woods, Alice Bell, Dr. Ronald A. (Melanie) MacBeth Jr., Kenneth (Marla) Busic, Paul (Shelia) Gilbreath, Lynne (Ronnie) Davis, Frank (Heidi) Busic, Eric (Celeste) Gilbreath, Brian (Starla) Dolihite, Stacy (Kurt) Boehm, Stephen MacBeth, Kelli (Mike) Reyer; 48 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Edith Hartson; and a brother, Frank (Viola) Shuttleworth.
