At the time of the 1851 Scotland Census William McClure, aged 6, born in Girvan Ayrshire, was staying with his aunt Isabella Shaw in Ballybroke, Girvan, Ayrshire.

At the time of the 1871 Scotland Census William McCleore, aged 27, born in Girvan Ayrshire, was working as a blacksmith for John Cook in Stepends Smithy, Kirkmichael, Ayrshire.

At the t ime of the 1881 Scotland Census William McClure, aged 37, born in Girvan Ayrshire, blacksmith at works, and wife Janet, aged 24, born in Liberton Edinburgh, were living at 1 Down St., Glasgow, Lanarkshire. Present were wife daughters: Ann (2) of Barony Lanark, Jane (8 months) of Barony Lanark.

At the time of the 1891 Scotland Census William McLure, aged 47, born in Girvan Ayrshire, blacksmith, and wife Janet, aged 34, born in Colinton Edinburgh, were living at 13 Wellfield St., Glasgow, Lanarkshire. With them were children (born in Glasgow): Annie (12), scholar, Janie (10), scholar, Jessie (8), scholar, William (6), scholar

At the time of the 1901 Scotland Census William McLure, agged 57, born in Girvan Ayrshire, blacksmith, and wife Janet, aged 44, born in Liberton Edinburghshire, were living at 54 Wellfield St., Glasgow, Lanarkshire. With them were children (born in Glasgow): Annie (22), Jeannie (20), dressmaker, Jessie (18), cigarette maker, William (16), iron slatter's apprentice, Alexander (9), scholar.

At the time of the 1911 Scotland Census William McClure, aged 67, born in Girvan Ayrshire, railway blacksmith, and wife Janet, aged 54, born in Liberton Midlothian, were living at 54 Wellfield St., Glasgow, Lanarkshire. With them were children (born in Glasgow): Annie (32), domestic servant, Jeanie (30), dressmaker, Alexander (19), engineer's labourer (railway).

William McClure, formerly a blacksmith, married to Janet Johnston, son of David McClure, farm servant (deceased), and Jane McClure M.S. Shaw (deceased), died as a result of senile decay, arteriosclerosis and cerebral haemorrhage, aged 82 years*. Informant son Wm McClure of 12 Eastfield Terrace, Glasgow.

* William's ages given throughout the Censuses consistently show his year of birth to have been 1844. Presuming this is correct, William's age at death would have been closer to 85.

  Marriage Information:

William married Janet Johnston, daughter of Alexander Johnston and Ann Neil, on 7 Jun 1876 in Kirkintilloch, Dunbarton, Scotland. (Janet Johnston was born about 1856 in Liberton, Edinburgh, Scotland and died on 2 Mar 1935 in 54 Wellfield St., Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland.)
