Devizes
The Late Alderman Taplin

Impressive scenes marked the funeral on Tuesday afternoon of Alderman Henry Taplin, of West View, Brickley Lane, whose death at the age of 77 took place at Devizes and District Hospital on Friday. Ald. Taplin had taken a considerable interest in the public life of Devizes. He occupied the Mayoral chair in 1919 and for some years had served the office of Borough Chamberlain in conjunction with Alderman R. J. Neate. A native of Devizes, he carried on a successful business as painter and decorator, from which he retired in 1923. At the time of his death Mr. Taplin was a senior alderman of the Council and his last term of six years in that office was due to expire at the end of the present year.

There was a large attendance at the funeral. The Mayor and members of the Corporation and the Borough officials attended in state, the Maces and other Corporation plate being enshrouded in crepe.
