   Research Notes:

"Leon G. Bohls was born January 31, 1913 on the property that is now the Pflugerville Heritage House Museum. This is the home his parents, G.W. and Bertha, completed in 1913.

He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran, Pflugerville and confirmed at St. Paul, Taylor. At the age of eight the family moved to Taylor. In 1931 Leon graduated from Taylor High School. Nicknamed "Leakey", he was an outstanding running back for the Taylor Ducks, leading his team to the regional championship, the highest level at that time. He was on the freshman football squad for the Texas Longhorns and in 1935, he received his BBA from the University of Texas, his beloved alma mater. His four sons and five grandchildren have attended U.T. He has been a long time faithful Longhorn fan for football, basketball and baseball and for the past 18 months, he has rarely been seen without wearing one of his UT national championship caps.

After graduation, Leon returned to Taylor to farm and ranch, and in 1942 led a large number of local men into the service. He entered the US Army Air Corps, serving in North Africa and Italy with the 99th Bomb Group, and received 13 bronze stars. He was fiercely patriotic and proud of this country.

He met Justine "Kay" Kent of Sioux City, Iowa and December 28, 1945 they were married; she was the love of his life. He dedicated his life to the Lord, his wife, and their four sons, working hard on the ranch and farm as well as developing several subdivisions on the north side of Taylor. Leon cared deeply for his community and St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he served on the vestry, Brotherhood, led Sunday School and served on many boards and committees. Whether at home or traveling, his family attended worship faithfully wherever they were. His faith sustained him. He served 16 years on the Taylor ISD School Board and was a leader in VFW, UT Ex-students Association, scouting (receiving the Lamb and Silver Beaver awards), little league baseball, and was Taylor's outstanding citizen in 1977. He has left a rich legacy of commitment in serving and caring for his family and others. He was proud of his Bohls-Pfluger heritage and rarely missed the annual family reunion on the 4th of July.

Leon is survived by his four sons and their families, Kent and wife Joan of Bastrop, Kirk and wife Vicki of Austin, Randall and wife Nema of Georgetown, Rodney and wife Susan of Houston; grandchildren, Amanda and husband Tom Jenkins of Houston, Josh and wife Liz Bohls of Austin, Kathryn and husband Dakota Ward of Portland, Oregon, Ryan, Tyler, Zachary Bohls of Austin, Cameron and Meredith Bohls of Houston, Justin Bohls, Gary and wife Ann Brown, of Georgetown, Larry and wife Sonya Brown of New Braunfels; great grandchildren, Olivia and Dylan Jenkins of Houston, Conrad and Smith Bohls of Austin, Sadie Brown of Georgetown, Madison and Blane Brown of New Braunfels.

Leon was preceded in death by his dear wife Justine "Kay", his parents G.W. and Bertha, his brothers Alvin and Fred and sister Lucile, and granddaughters Sarah and Michelle...." 2
