Obituary

"The death at Kensington of Mr. James Nicholls, a very old colonist, is announced. The deceased, who was born in Elston [Helston], Cornwall, arrived in the colony in July, 1840, in the ship Fairleigh, and he was only 7 years of age when he came here. After living for a while in Adelaide Mr. Nicholls settled in Hay Valley, near Nairne. When the rush to the Ballarat gold fields took place Mr. Nicholls was amongst the South Australians who left for that place. He stayed there a number of years, and on returning to South Australia worked for 20 years at the Kadina mines. Afterwards he lived in various parts of the city and suburbs." 3
