At the time of the 1891 England Census Peter Avis, age 10, born in Mayfield Sussex, scholar, was with his step-father Samuel Isted in South Street, Mayfield.

In Apr 1900 Peter Avis was present at the marriage of his sister Elizabeth Ellen Avis to Charles Gilder in Mayfield Sussex.

At the time of the 1911 England Census Peter Joseph Avis, age 30, pastry cook, and wife of 4 years Hetty, age 30, born in Chipping Norton Oxon (mother of 1 child), were living at 2 Dukes Rd., Tunbridge Wells. With them was daughter Muriel Hetty (1) of Tunbridge Wells.

In the 1939 Register William P Avis* (b. 31 Jan 1881), shop keeper, groceries & provisions, off licencee & post office, and wife Hetty Avis (b. 3 Nov 1880), unpaid domestic duties), were living at 127 Old Shoreham Road, Southwick.
