  Research Notes:

Owen base-born son of Owen Griffith & Gwen William (baptismal record).

-------------------------------

In 1841, Owen Owens, aged about 30, farmer, was with [his mother] Gwen William, aged about 65, farmer, in Briws, Llanenddwyn, Merioneth. Present also was [Owen's future wife] Margd. Wynne, aged about 25, F.S. [farm servant].

Sole beneficiary and executor of his mother's Will (proved 1842)

In 1861 Owen Owens (55) of Llanenddwyn, married [sic], farmer of 12 acres, was living in Briws Llanenddwyn. Present were children (born in Llanenddwyn): Gwen (16), Anne (11), Owen (8)

In 1871 Owen Owens (64) of Llanenddwyn, widower, retired farmer, was living in Bryn y felin, Llanenddwyn. Present were daughter Gwen Pugh (27) of Llanenddwyn, married, son-in-law John Pugh (24) of Llanenddwyn, labourer, grandchildren (born in Llanenddwyn): Watkin Owen* (6), Margaret Pugh (4 months). Owen's son, John, and his family, were living nextdoor.

* Watkin Owen is probably the same as Watkin Pugh, son of John Pugh & Gwen, christened on 29 Nov 1874 in Llanenddwyn, and whose birth was registered as Watkin Owen in the GRO birth index for the same year. There is no entry in the GRO birth index for Watkin Owen between 1864 and 1866. It would seem that he was born out of wedlock and is therefore shown in this and succeeding Censuses with his mother's maiden-surname.
