At the time of the 1881 England Census Ephraim Pelham, age 18, born in Ringmer Sussex, journeyman bricklayer, was with his parents James & Cordelia Pelham in Church Lane, Ringmer Sussex.

At the time of the 1901 England Census Ephraim Pelham, age 39, born in Ringmer, bricklayer, and wife Kate Pelham, age 37, born in Ringmer, were living in New Town, Ringmer Sussex. With them were children (born in Ringmer): Sidney (15), carpenter's apprentice, Nelson (14), Beatrice (11), Harry (7), Linda (5), Dora (2) and Hector (2 m). Also present was Kate's father George Parker (89) of Emsworth Hants, widower, naval pensioner.

At the time of the 1911 England Census Ephraim Horace Pelham, age 48, born in Ringmer Sussex, widower, father of 8 children, bricklayer, was living in Smiths Lane, Ringmer Sussex. Present were children (born in Ringmer): Dora Mary (12), school, and Hector George (9), school.

Ephraim Horace Pelham, born in Ringmer England, aged 44 years*, widowed, bricklayer, enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 7 Feb 1916, and embarked with the 11th Infantry Battalion (16th Reinforcements) on 31 Mar 1916 from Fremantle, Western Australia, his next of kin being Hector George Pelham, son, of Beaufort-road, Wagin, W.A. Private Ephraim Horace Pelham returned to Australia on 17 Jun 1918. 4

WOUNDED. — Two more local men have been wounded — Private Ephraim Pelham, Australian Forces, and Gunner James Brinkworth, R.G.A.. The former resided at Ringmer before going to Australia, where, together with his three sons, he joined the Army at the outbreak of war. The family is again residing at Ringmer, and one son, Harry, is now home on leave. Gunner Brinkworth is a son of Mr. and Mrs. James Brinkworth, of Green Lane Farm.
