The Chronologia Johannes de Beke records the succession in 1299 of "Iohannes comes Hannoniensis filius Adelheydis sororis Wilhelmi regis" as Count of Holland.

He succeeded his paternal grandmother in 1280 as JEAN II Comte de Hainaut. He succeeded in 1299 as JAN II Count of Holland. 2

Jean married Ctse Philippine DE LUXEMBOURG, daughter of Cte Henri V "le Blond" DE LUXEMBOURG and Ctse Marguerite DE BAR, on 7 Dec 1270. (Philippine DE LUXEMBOURG was born about 1252 in Luxembourg, Belgium and died on 6 Apr 1311 in Valenciennes, Nord, France.)
