At the time of the 1881 England Census Anna M Oates, age 32, born in Finsbury Middlesex, and husband Henry Oates, age 41, born in Heckmondwike Yorkshire, woollen manufacturer, were living in Cemetery Road, Heckmondwike Yorkshire. With them were daughters (born in Heckmondwike): Ethel M (8), scholar, Jessie Mary (6), scholar, Annie M (2).
