[Mendo abducted his future wife] while on pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. The Livro Velho records that "D. Mendo Alão de Bargança" abducted by force "hum filha d´elrey d´Armenia qui hia em romaria a Santiago". She has not been traced in Armenian sources and it is not known whether "Armenia" represents her correct geographical origin. 1
