At the time of the 1881 England Census Samuel Dearing, aged 27, born in Hellingly Sussex, farmer's son, was with his widowed mother in Starnash Hellingly Sussex.

In 1882 Samuel Dearing, farm labourer, was co-executor of his father's Will.

At the time of the 1891 England Census Samuel Dearing, aged 37, born in Hellingly, brickmaker, and wife Elizabeth Dearing, aged 35, born in Hellingly Sussex, were living in Harebeating, Hailsham Sussex. With them were children William (12) of Hailsham, scholar, Herbert (8) of Hailsham, scholar, George (7) of Hellingly, scholar, Lily (5) of Hellingly, scholar, and Samuel (2) of Hellingly. Elizabeth's sister Alphey Saunders and her family were living nextdoor.

At the time of the 1901 England Census Samuel Dearing, aged 47, born in Hellingly, brickmaker, and wife Elizabeth Dearing, aged 45, born in Hellingly Sussex, were living in Hawks Town, Hailsham Sussex. With them were sons (born in Hailsham): Herbert (18), brickmaker, George (17), brickmaker, and Samuel (12).

At the time of the 1911 England Census Samuel Dearing, aged 57, born in Hellingly, general labourer in brickyard, and wife of 29 years Elizabeth Dearing, aged 55, born in Hellingly Sussex (mother of 6 children, 2 deceased), were living in Hawks Town, Hailsham Sussex. With them was son Samuel Ernest (22) of Hailsham, brick maker.
