  Research Notes:

In 1694 Sarah Chapman was bequeathed £4 from the Will of her maternal grandfather Richard Bristed of Waldron, yeoman.

In 1722 Sarah received her marriage bond from the Will of her late husband Samuel Martin of Herstmonceux.

On 21 Mar 1723/4 Sarah the widow and relict of Thomas Carey of Herstmonceux was granted Administration of his personal effects.

In 1737 Sarah the relict of Thomas Carey deceased received 5 shillings from her father's Will.

Abstract of the Will of Sarah Carey of Brightling in the County of Sussex, Widow, written 20 May 1758, proved 26 Jan 1762. 4

Gives and devises to her daughter Elizabeth Picknall, widow, her freehold tenement, back garden and parcel of land of about 44 roods in Brightling where she now lives and which she purchased from James Picknall. And after the decease of her daughter Elizabeth Picknall she gives and devises the same to Elizabeth's daughter, Mary Picknall and her heirs. Wills that her said granddaughter Mary Picknall pay £5 to Sarah Picknall, another daughter of Elizabeth.

Gives and bequeaths to her daughter Elizabeth Picknall her clock, for the term of her natural life or until she remarries, after which she gives the clock to her said granddaughter Mary Picknall.

Gives and bequeaths to her granddaughter Mary Picknall her bed, one round table and a deal chest.

Gives and bequeaths to her two daughters Sarah Akehurst and Elizabeth Picknall her wearing apparell, to be equally divided between them.

Gives and bequeaths to her said daughter Sarah Akehurst her chest of drawers.

Gives and bequeaths 1 guinea to her son Samuel Martin of Rotherfield, husbandman.

All her ready money and securities for money she gives and bequeaths to her daughter Sarah Akehurst.

All the rest and remainder of her household goods, linen, and other furniture, she gives and bequeaths to her two daughters Sarah Akehurst and Elizabeth Picknall, share and share alike.

Makes her granddaughter Mary Picknall and her grandson Samuel Akehurst co-executors of her last will and testament.
