At the time of the 1901 England Census Charles Carey, age 26, born in Ringmer Sussex, carter on farm, was with his parents in Ringmer Sussex.

At the time of the 1911 England Census Charles Carey, age 35, born in Ringmer Sussex, farmer, and wife of 7 years Emmeline, age 28, born in Lewes Sussex (mother of 1 child), were living in Broyle Side, Ringmer Sussex. With them was son Ernest Charles (6) of Ringmer.

While chopping wood a few weeks ago, Mr. Charles Carey (54), gardener, of South-street, was struck on a hand by a piece of wood, causing an abrasion. Next day he was taken ill and had to go to bed. He has now died in the Royal Sussex County Hospital of blood poisoning attributed to the accident.
