At the time of the 1841 England Census Henry Akhurst, aged about 25, ag lab, was with his siblings in Dun Street, Boxley Kent.

At the time of the 1851 England Census Henry Friend Akhurst, age 34, born in Bredgar Kent, farm bailiff to Mrs. Wakely [who lived nextdoor], and wife Frances, age 30, born in Chatham Kent, were living at no. 21 Moor St., Rainham Kent. With them was daughter Caroline (8) of Boxley Kent.

At the time of the 1861 England Census Henry Friend Akhurst, age 44, born in Bredgar Kent, victualler, and wife Frances, age 41, born in Chatham Kent, were living in public house, Burham Kent. With them were daughter Caroline (19) of Chatham, and nephews James Akhurst* (11) and James Akhurst (8), both shown as born in Rainham.

* This would have been the only son of Henry's late brother James Akhurst.
