Gérard II D' AUVERGNE, Comte d'Aurillac

  • Married:
  • Died: Before 879

Also called Cte Gérard II DU LIMOUSIN 1

  Research Notes:

The Vita Sancti Geraldi Compendium names "Mathildem filiam Pippini Aquitaniæ regis…Geraldi aviam" and his parents "patre Geraldo Auriliaci comite…matre Adaltrude" when recording the birth of "Geraldum" in 855.

Comte [d´Aurillac]. Gérard is shown in Europäische Stammtafeln as the son of Comte Gérard but the primary source on which this is based has not yet been identified. “Gerardus comes” exchanged “æcclesia...Rovariam...in pago Lemovicino in vicaria Flaviniacense” for “villam...in pago Biturico in vicaria Nirondense...Coiacus” with Stodilus Bishop of Limoges by charter dated 28 Jul 855. 2

  Marriage Information:

Gérard married Adeltrude.

2 Foundation for Medieval Genealogy, Medlands. Gerard is shown as a child of his father's second marriage. However, this is chronologically impossible, as Mathilde's father was born c. 797 (such that Mathilde would have been roughly the same age as Gerard's elder brother Rainulf), and Gerard's eldest son, Geraud d'Aurillac, was born in 855. As such, Gerard is shown as also born of his father's first marriage.
