Together with his brother and Foulques Archbishop of Reims, he invited Guido II Duke of Spoleto to become king of France in opposition to Emperor Charles III “le Gros” who had delivered Burgundy to the Vikings after his accession in 884. He accompanied Guido back to Italy after the election of Eudes King of Burgundy as King of France in 888.
