Barony of BURNELL...

NICHOLAS BURNELL, formerly HAUDLO, 2nd son of John DE HAUDLO (died 1346), by Maud [married 1315] widow of John [Lovel], 2nd Lord Lovel, sister and heir of Edward BURNELL, [LORD BURNELL]. Having succeeded in 1348 to the manors of Holgate, Acton Burnell, &c., he assumed the name of Burnell. He was aged 23 at his father's death, and had seisin 15 May 1355. He had livery of Condover and Little Rissington 25 June 1363. He served in the wars with France. He was summoned to Parliament from 25 November 1350 to 7 January 1382/3, by writs directed Nicholao Burnell, whereby he is held to have become LORD BURNELL. He married, before 12 July 1339, when she was living, Mary. He died 19 January 1382/3. 1 2
