Nuño Ordóñez DE ASTURIAS

  • Died: After 870

  Research Notes:

The Crónica de Sampiro (interpolated, España Sagrada edition) names “Froilanum, Nunnum...et Veremundum et Odarium” as the brothers of King Alfonso III. Nuño is not named as one of the king´s brothers in the Crónica de Sampiro, as reproduced in the Historia Silense. "Garsea princeps et Mumma domna regina" donated certain churches, including the church obtained by “tius noster domnus Nunnus de dato patris nostri”, to Eslonza monastery by charter dated 30 Aug 912, confirmed by “Ranimirus...”. According to many scholars, Nuño Ordóñez & his wife were the parents of Vermudo Núñez Conde de Cea and his six brothers and sisters. Salazar Acha, in his article on the Vela family, rejects this hypothesis and suggests a possible origin from the Jiménez family of Navarre. In the absence of documentary proof one way or the other, it appears impossible to judge which theory may be correct. 1

  Marriage Information:

Nuño apparently married Asura DE CASTILLA, daughter of Conde Diego Rodríguez "Porcelos" DE CASTILLA.
